ABOUT US
Doing Life the Berner Way
WinterHaven at Wide-Acre was started rather by accident. You see, I didn’t set out to raise Bernese Mountain Dogs, but the breed found me at my lowest. In 2018, my late husband succumbed to multiple myeloma cancer caused by his service in the Vietnam War. I was left as a disabled widow who was trying to pick up the pieces and find a “new normal”.
Six months later, I realized that I could no longer navigate my life without the assistance of a service animal and companion. I began doing research that lead me to adopting my first Berner, Barrons. I quickly fell in love with not only his amazing temperament and extreme intelligence, but his genuine desire to help me find that “new normal” I never thought was possible. I began training him as my service dog, and he now accompanies me almost everywhere I go.
I knew early on that I had to share this incredible breed with more people, and so WinterHaven (the name my late husband use to call our family home) was born.
Our female, Duchess, came into our program with an impressive pedigree of champion European bloodlines. Also trained as a service animal, Duchess has an exceptional temperament and is an amazing mama.
All of our breeding animals have been thoroughly tested and received A+++ medical reviews. Our puppies are raised with the Puppy Culture method, so they will arrive to their forever family well-socialized, pine pellet litter trained, and fully vaccinated and de-wormed.
Whether you are looking for a family pet or a future service dog, we believe that one of our Berners will make an amazing addition to your family. Contact us today; We would love to help you make your Berner Baby dream a reality.
